ESS Celebrates Bees at Farmers’ Market
ESS celebrated Bee City Sandy Springs at the Sandy Springs Farmers Market on Saturday, June 1st. Attendees of all ages enjoyed watching honey bees at work while tasting local honey from honey straws. They also took home wildflower seed packets and lots of stickers.
We showed folks how to make responsible mosquito traps that don’t harm pollinators by using “Mosquito Dunks,” a bacterial control that eats mosquito larvae without harming beneficial insects and birds.
Honey bees are directly responsible for a surprising amount of the foods we enjoy, including watermelon, almonds, and even ice cream (alfalfa, a key food of diary cattle, is pollinated by honey bees)!
A good time was had by all. Thanks to everyone who stopped by our tent to say hello and learn about bees!
